OUR FOUNDER
More than 10 years ago Bagtastic Basket Co.'s founder Imari J., a U.S. native, visited Ghana. She first went to study Twi language, cultural dancing, Ghanaian history and religion at the University of Ghana. She walked Accra's vibrant city markets and visited rural communities and fell in love with unique contemporary African art, crafts and design and developed lasting partnerships with artisans who created them. She lived in Ghana for several years as her second home and created Bagtastic Basket Co., to share artisans' skillful work, rooted in traditional art forms with her community and worldwide, creating a reliable source of income for women and their families.
OUR BASKETS
Bagtastic Basket Co.'s baskets are strong, durable, colorful and entirely hand-made. Each basket is striking and uniquely beautiful. They are made from river grass, known as "elephant grass" by weavers in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Baskets with leather handles are wrapped in goat skin for comfort and durability. The leather is naturally tanned using local seeds and red millet. Our baskets are also vegan friendly, we provide baskets without a leather handle.

Most of our items are made by women in villages and the craftsmanship is non-comparable. Baskets made from these natural materials are known to last up to 3 or more decades and can become heirlooms for your loved ones.
